The founders of the Australian Bulldog set out to develop a dog breed of "Bulldog" type which is more suitable to the Australian climate while keeping personality and especially health as their number one priority but without losing the classic British Bulldog features and temperament. The Australian Bulldog is instantly recognizable as a bulldog, * with Males growing to 17"-21" at the shoulder and weighing 28kgs-38kgs at maturity * and Females growing to 17"-20" at the shoulder and weighing 24kgs-30kgs at maturity. This type of dog was not bred to replace the British Bulldog as they are a wonderful breed in their own way, it was simply bred by Australians to handle our Australian climate better!!!......
